In 1998 Christopher E.O. Opielok founded the Opielok Reederei GmbH shipping company in Hamburg. His first acquisition was a sea-going 2.250 dwt dry cargo container ship he named "MV Christine O".

Christopher Opielok, namesake to the shipping company which he fully owns, has a nautical background, having sailed as a fully certified master on dry cargo vessels and smaller offshore units until 1992, after which he was working at the German Bulk Owners offices in Hong Kong and Singapore.

Since founding, Opielok Reederei has owned / managed 15 vessels. It currently operates modern Offshore Platform supply vessels for the international Oil and Gas Offshore Industry and bulk carriers deployed in the Pacific Basin Ltd. IHC pool, with its headquarters in Hong Kong. The world largest handysize bulk operator with over 90 hand size bulk carriers, trading mostly in the Pacific Rim.

In family hands, Opielok Reederei plans to remain a small, independent owned ship owner and management company, with the mission to keep costs under tight control and to consistently provide services fulfilling highest safety, security and quality standards. Opielok Reederei ships have multinational crews, many of the staff have been with the company since 1998.
